Sekolah Semangat Maju Sitiawan

PERAK ASSOCIATION FOR THE INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED

Welcome and thank you for visiting our Website

BACKGROUND

Established in 1991, Sekolah Semangat Maju Sitiawan is one of six branch schools under the care of the Perak Association For the Intellectually Disabled (PAFID)

The primary objective of the School is to provide education and life skills training for children with intellectual disabilities.

Three types of courses are provided, i.e. early intervention program (EIP) for children between 3-6 years, educational classes for children between the ages of 6 and 18 years, and skilled training courses (STC) for students aged 18-22 years.

Classes are conducted from 8 am till 12.45 pm on weekdays. On 14 February 2008, the School had 79 students in the enrolment out of whom 25 are girls. Members of the staff include a Head-Teacher, 6 teachers, a Teacher-Supervisor, a house assistant and a bus driver. Bus services are provided for a nominal fee for those who need transportation to and from the School.

The classrooms are located on the 1st floor of a double storey building which used to be The Sitiawan Maternity Centre. The school shares the premises with Carevilla, a nursing home for the elderly which occupies the ground floor.

The monthly running costs including the salaries of 10 staff including 4 privately funded teachers sometimes exceeds RM10,000 ! This branch school is almost totally funded from donations from local well wishers and other organisations.

Allocation from the Perak State Welfare Department is channelled through PAFID in the form of salaries to 4 of our 8 trained teachers.

CONTRIBUTION

Cash donations will be deeply appreciated, as funds are sometimes barely enough to sustain the school. The school is also looking for donors who are willing to contribute in kind. Gifts in the form of teaching/learning equipment e.g. stationery, books, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Cash contributions exceeding RM100 are acknowledged by the issual of temporary receipts followed by the official receipts from the Perak Association for the Intellectually Disabled (PAFID) for the purpose of tax exemption.
